Bake and Pray

Led by Kendall Vanderslice

December 16, 2023

We are so excited to announce the Bake and Pray Workshop with Kendall Vanderslice.  Kendall is originally from Boston, and now resides in North Carolina.

In this workshop, Kendall will guide us through the basic principles of bread baking; as well as embodied, contemplative prayer. Designed to be interactive, every participant will receive a list of ingredients before the event in order to bake along. Those who prefer to simply observe are welcome to join too.

Kendall’s Biography, from her website:

Kendall Vanderslice is a baker, writer, and public theologian.

A graduate of Duke Divinity School (Master of Theological Studies), Boston University (MLA Gastronomy), and Wheaton College (BA Anthropology), she has committed her life to the study of food and community formation.

Kendall is a professionally trained baker, having learned from several top American pastry chefs. In 2018, she was named a James Beard Foundation national scholar for her work bridging food and religion.

She is the author of We Will Feast: Rethinking Dinner, Worship, and the Community of God, born out of five years spent researching churches that worship together around the table. Her newest book, By Bread Alone: a baker’s reflections on hunger, longing, and the goodness of God, is now available. Kendall is also the founder of The Edible Theology Project.

She leads workshops and speaks regularly at churches, colleges, and universities around North America. Her writing appears in Christianity Today, Christian Century, Faith & Leadership, and Religion News Service.

At the Edible Theology Project, we believe the rest and connection you are looking for will take place at the table.

We create resources for churches, families, and individuals that help you and yours connect the meal shared at the Communion table to Tuesday night’s leftovers.
